It’s wonderful to see previous participants of the Euroasia Strings Competition doing well in their musical lives.  Since we are now in the seventh edition, and have a record 1300 participants this year, I am sure that the alumni of this competition will become even more prestigious in the years to come.  These growing numbers are a healthy sign of competition, of cultural maturity and of a belief that the making of music is useful to individuals and to society.  And for the very best, the making of music may be a pathway to a successful career, too.

The closing concert and prize giving ceremony for the Euroasia Strings Competition saw the culmination of a record of over 500 participants vying for the prestigious prizes, while of course elevating their own performances to the best level possible.  Now in its seventh edition, it’s wonderful to see previous participants of the competition doing well in their musical lives.

The piano competition is similarly growing, and these growing numbers are a healthy sign of competition, of cultural maturity and of a belief that the making of music is useful to individuals and to society.  And for the most talented and disciplined, the making of music may be a pathway to a successful career, too.

As patron, it continues to be my privilege to witness the high level of skill among young Malaysians, and to play alongside some of them.  This year, I am happy to be joined by a special guest on the piano!

As ever, I congratulate Angel and the whole team at Euroasia for their unwavering dedication to this cause that was born in Seremban, and I would like to thank all the sponsors for appreciating the value of serious music!
