Background of the Fêtes Galantes:

In the 18th century, ‘Fêtes Galantes’ depicted intimate scenes of elegantly dressed men and women, often situated amidst lush parklands, engaging in refined displays of affectionate play.

The concert’s theme, ‘Fêtes Galantes,’ harmonizes seamlessly with the overarching motif of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics – – ‘Games Wide Open’ (Ouvrons Grand les Jeux). The repertoire showcases a vibrant array of selections, including two renditions of the ‘Fêtes Galantes’ theme by Reynaldo Hahn and Francis Poulenc. Additionally, Rossini’s ‘La Regata Veneziana’ suite, inspired by the Venetian boat racing festival, adds a spirited touch directly tied to sporting events, elegantly complementing the occasion.
